September 26, 2018

It’s a well-known fact that Monterrey is one of the three major cities of Mexico. Monterrey has two primary draws for tourism, it’s exquisite gastronomy (based primarily on its excellent quality meat) and also that it’s an important business destination. But is there more to the Royal Capital that you don’t know?

Here we've listed some of the most curious facts about Monterrey:

The Macroplaza is bigger than the Red Square in Moscow

The Macroplaza in Monterrey is one of the most emblematic sites in the city. It fills 40 hectares of space. To give you an idea of just how large this is, it’s twice as large as the Red Square in Moscow, it’s five times the size of St. Peter's Square in the Vatican and six times the size of the Zocalo in Mexico City.

The Paseo Santa Lucia is considered a marvel of Mexico

The beautiful Paseo Santa Lucia canal was inaugurated in September of 2007 and it’s considered to be one of the 13 wonders of Mexico created by man. Without a doubt, it’ss one of best things to do in Monterrey that you can’t miss on your next visit.

Recognition of INAH to the Fundidora Park

The giant Fundidora Park received the prestigious title of Museum of Industrial Archeology by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) for the great national and historical value that the numerous structures housed within the park have become as museo-graphic pieces. These range from the 27 macro structures, 127 pieces of machinery and steel tools, 16 ships and a host of others elements.

Fundidora Park is visited by more than 7 million people each year and, of course, it’s another our recommended things to do in Monterrey that every traveler should visit.

Delicious Gastronomy

In Monterrey, it’s always a good time to prepare a delicious roast beef. Each Monterrey local consumes more than 37 kilos of red meat per year on average. That’s more than twice Mexico’s national average - 14 kilos per year.
