Romantic things to do in Monterrey

February 21, 2018

If you’re looking for a romantic getaway location for you and your partner, Monterrey is the perfect choice. There are so many romantic things to do in Monterrey that are great for all types of occasions and tastes - you’ll want to come back so you can check them all off of your list.

Barrio Antiguo Monterrey

Located in the heart of Monterrey, Barrio Antiguo has endless activities and romantic places for you and your loved one. Whether you arrive in the morning or early afternoon, you’ll find a range of cultural activities.

Dive into Mexico’s rich and colorful history through an art exhibit from local and international artists or visit the Marco Museum or the Museo Historia Mexicana for more culture and exploration. You won’t want to miss the Museo del Dulce in all of its gastronomic excellence – showcasing the delicious food and beverages native to each municipality in Nuevo León.

Take a tour of the Macroplaza which is the 4th largest square in the world, measuring in at 40 hectares full of crumbling, bright colonial buildings, fountains, ancient monuments and green open-air park areas.

Continue your tour of Monterrey with the Paseo Santa Lucia. You can walk along this beautiful boardwalk – but we highly recommend taking the boat tour through the channel that is considered to be one of the 13 wonders of Mexico created by man!

Later in the afternoon, walk the cobble-stone roads of the Barrio Antiguo, where you can stroll through little stores and coffee shops, and maybe sit down for a bite to eat at one of the tasty restaurants. Swing your partner into a little pub for a romantic evening of dancing. By the way, don’t forget to try one of the most famous dishes in Monterrey: El Cabrito. "El Rey del Cabrito", is one of the most famous restaurants in Barrio Antiguo that we recommend!

Santiago, Mexico

Pueblo Mágico Santiago, or Magic Town, is located less than one hour from Monterrey and it’s a favorite of tourists and locals alike for its gorgeous landscapes. Here, you’ll find several tourist attractions to spend a pleasant day in the company of your loved one.

Walk to the Cascada de Cola de Caballo or “Horsetail Waterfall” to see the view and admire this natural phenomenon. In the center of Santiago, you’ll find a variety of delicious restaurants where you can order a dessert or traditional corn bread. You can also see the revered Church of Santiago Apóstol surrounded by picturesque houses in this quaint Pueblo Magico.

To end your day, step aboard a comfortable catamaran to take you to “La Boca” or the dam that is a must-see for visitors.

After a full day of fun activities in Monterrey, we recommend settling down and relaxing in the comfort and warmth of the Best Western Royal Courts Monterrey hotel, located just 10 minutes from downtown Monterrey.
