Just 36 minutes away from the city of Monterrey is the commercial area Los Cavazos, known by locals as the best place to buy handcrafts in the region. This area is located on the national highway to the town of Santiago and you can recognize it very easily since it is the meeting point for nationals and foreigners who make a “must stop” to acquire and see the great variety of handcrafts offered in this place.
What can you find here?
Leather items: from boots, belts and hats, to bags, wallets and diaries, everything you can imagine made of leather is here. If you like this type of material and are looking for a nice souvenir from Monterrey, this is the ideal site.
Rustic Furniture: different craftsmen display tables, chairs, and all kinds of furniture and decorations. You can make a deal with the sellers to get a good price.
Quarry and clay pieces: clay is a material used widely in handicrafts, not only in Monterrey but also in all of Mexico. Here you can find casseroles, plates, vases, braziers and a myriad of articles made with this material, ideal to give a very Mexican touch to your kitchen. The quarry pieces are also visible in this area. If you want a special figure, you can ask for it.
Regional Candy: gastronomic delights cannot be forgotten. In this place you will find a delicious and highly recommended cornbread, typical of the region, as well as crystalized pumpkin or orange candies, fruit cooked in molasses and honey. There is also a great variety of restaurants, so if you want to eat a delicious grilled beef, it is also highly recommended.
This place is very busy so you should be patient to be able to see everything it has to offer. If you are planning to travel to Monterrey in Easter and still don’t have reservations, we strongly recommend staying at Best Western Plus Royal Courts, only 30 minutes away from Los Cavazos and a few minutes away from down town. Ask about Easter rates.
