Remember Leonardo DiCaprio’s award-winning performance of in the movie The Wolf of Wall Street in 2014? If you didn’t know already, the movie is based on a real life story - Jordan Belfort’s life, to be exact. And he is coming to Monterrey, Mexico on Saturday, March 24 to give a seminar at Pavilion M.
Jordan Belfort, the stockbroker who was blamed for manipulating the stock market, has been giving lectures since 2014 titled, "Sell, Trade & Earn", where he describes his unique sales approach. It’s a mixture of behavioral psychology, persuasive strategies and applied neuroscience in business.
If you want to see Mr. Belfort, he will be presenting right here in Monterrey, Mexico - tickets range from $1,611 MXD to upwards of $5,000 MXD.
Mr. Belfort together with his partner, Danny Porush, created one of the most successful broker agencies of all time: Stratton Oakmont Inc., Long Island. The company operated as a boiler room, since it was a call center, where junk bonds were sold. They used all forms of shady techniques to achieve it, sometimes earning up to $12 million dollars in just one single moment.
With Stratton Oakmont Inc., they cheated investors out of more than $200 million. Belfort came to earn over $100 million, living a life full of extravagant luxuries. He was the owner of one of the most expensive yachts in the world, originally built for Coco Chanel, and he was also famous for being addicted to drugs and alcohol. After a few years, he was convicted for manipulating the stock market and for money laundering. He only lasted 22 months in prison, however, as he pleaded guilty and reached an agreement with the FBI, which includes compensating his clients for over $110 million.
In 2013, his story rose to fame on the big screen when it was played by Leonardo Dicaprio, in the film "The Wolf of Wall Street", directed by Martin Scorsese. Dicaprio won a Golden Globe Award for his performance and he also had to go to court to testify in a lawsuit filed by one of the company's former employees against Scorsese.
This story was not only made famous by this legendary movie, but also for Belfort's own autobiographies: The Wolf of Wall Street and Catching the Wolf of Wall Street, where he goes into details about his life and the Straight Line System sales technique that he used to achieve such quick business and economic success.
Today, Jordan Belfort travels the world and earns millions of dollars a year … not in the old way, but by giving lectures to all who want to listen.
