September 07, 2018

Although Monterrey, Mexico is a city with so much to offer, sometimes it’s fun to venture out of the city to discover its beautiful surroundings.

You could easily spend several days discovering all of Monterrey’s numerous neighborhoods, museums, squares and places of interest but there are also incredible destinations that are located just a short drive down the road that are ideal to visit on a daytrip.

Discover the things to do in and around Monterrey when you visit one of these wonderful cities:

Pueblo Magico: Santiago

Santiago is a Pueblo Magico near the royal capital. It’s a place known for beautiful architecture and welcoming colonial charm. It’s also an ideal place to be in contact with nature because it is surrounded by natural beauty that, in addition to gorgeous views, is the perfect setting to practice some exciting adventure sports like mountain biking, rappelling and kayaking. You can even make a descent in a river and travel through an underground waterway.

Distance from Monterrey: 40 min.

Caving at the Grutas de García

Go on a spelunking adventure through the caves and caverns of the Grutas de Garcias. Visit these grottos located in the municipality of García where the fun begins before you even enter. There are only two ways to arrive: by climbing the Cerro del Fraile or by taking a cable car. Once inside, you’ll be enchanted with the natural rock formations that have formed over millions of years – so long ago that so you can even discover marine fossils in the caves!

Distance from Monterrey: 50 min.

Snow Skiing near Arteaga

Arteaga is another of the Pueblos Magicos near Monterrey, located in the state of Coahuila. Arteaga is known for its quiet atmosphere engulfed in nature, and also for being the starting point to visit the Forests of Monterreal, the closes ski resort in Mexico! That’s right, you can go snow skiing in Mexico. Although there are occasional natural snowfalls in Montarreal, the ski slopes are made from artificial snow, so you can snow ski in Mexico year-round!
