Visit the stars in Monterrey

March 14, 2018

Seeing the night sky lit up with stars is an unforgettable experience and even moreso if it is enjoyed as a family. If you will be visiting Monterrey this month, you’ll want to visit one of the largest observatories in the Northeast side of Mexico. Here, kids and adults alike have a fund day full of exploration and discovery. This observatory and cultural center is the Planetarium Alpha in Monterrey. You’ll get to see the stars form two main telescopes and participate in numerous activities.

The Planetarium Alfa is one of the best things to do in Monterrey, Mexico. Visit the planetarium anytime from Tuesday to Sunday year-round. We recommend visiting on “Astronomical Saturday” where there is a Descriptive Astronomy Course for Adults so that you can learn more about the planets and our solar system.

When you arrive at the alpha planetarium, you will be greeted by none other than the dinosaurs! Yes, you read that correctly: dinosaurs. The exciting new exhibition, "Dinosaurs made in Mexico", just arrived at the planetarium and will be available until May 2019. At this new dinosaur exhibit, you’ll not only see the fossils of dinosaurs that have been excavated in several Mexican locations such as Puebla,, Sinaloa, Chiapas and Coahuila but you can also see real, up-close dinosaur exhibits with awe-inspiring new animatronic technology that bring the dinosaurs to life with moving body parts and roaring sounds (literally)! This is one of the best exhibits to see in Monterrey!

You’ll want to visit all of the exhibits in the planetarium. There is another new interactive exhibit that you can see until September 9, 2018 called, “Eat Well, Play Well”. Visitors can see the contents of the foods they consume and the importance of fruit on nutrition among other lessons in nutrition and exercise. There are also excellent options for kids in the planetarium alpha and more than 20 hands-on exhibits specifically for children. Visit the interactive and kid-friendly exhibit called, "Mi Yo". Mi Yo is how kids can learn about the human body and all the parts that create our digestive and circulatory systems. If you’re looking things to do in Monterrey, Mexico that are kid-frienly you can’t miss the Planetarium Alpha, it’s a day packed with fun and adventure for the whole family!

Visit the IMAX dome theater, where you can see the National Geographic film, “Extreme Weather” that is playing from now until June 28. The things to do are almost endless – we cannot go without mentioning the Science Garden, where children can play and learn while having fun.

We highly recommend the Planetarium Alpha for an exciting day of discovery and learning for the whole family in Monterrey, Mexico.
